DLP Policy to encrypt outgoing data does not allow copying

Jump to solution

Dear All,

I have created a data protection rule for "Removable Storage Protection" which classification is limited to MS-Office, Database Files and PDF Files. And the rest unchanged. The reaction is assigned to Encrypt data. You may see the configuration in the screenshots.

Actually the rule works and when the user tries to copy files to a USB flash, the user is notified but the file is not copied!! As far as I know the file must be copied to the destination after being encrypted. But the rule does not allow the file to be copied at all.

Thank you.

@it1024 Thanks for choosing Support Community.

The encrypted file should be in the flash drive. I tested it using two methods.

1. Right click the file and send = > File was sent to USB as encrypted.

2. Copy the file and navigate to USB flash drive right click and click paste = > File was pasted as encrypted.

In your case, there might be another rule which is blocking it. Look into the DLP incident manger OR C:\program data\McAfee\DLP\Temp\Logs\Session#1\ take a look at the agent log to understand why it is missing.

@JaganA

Thank you for your reply which somehow led me to the solution.

Actually the problem was that I had not assigned any encryption Key to systems or users. And that would cause the data not to be encrypted before being copied so that it would just be blocked.

Thank you.
