Did you mean:

"Windows did not trust this program because its identity can't be verified"

Jump to solution

Hi,

I have McAfee Internet Security running on Windows 7. Just discovered today that McAfee anti-virus and firewall had been deactivated (don't know how, didn't touch it). Went into Control Panel / System and Security / Action Center to check status. This is what I get:

  Network firewall (Important)

"Windows Firewall and McAfee Firewall both report that they are turned off."

  Virus protection (Important)

"McAfee Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware reports that it is turned off."

When trying to turn either of them on, I get this response:

  This program will not run

"Windows did not trust this program because its identity can't be verified."

Also, if I try to start McAfee Internet Security from the Start menu, nothing happens.

It seems a bit weird that Windows no longer trusts McAfee. Not sure when it was turned off. How can I make it turned on again? Any help appreciated.

Kind regards,

Samuel

Moved to General Discussion.

Check your system clock for accuracy.

It's possible that the software has updated and requires a reboot to function properly, have you tried that?

Try it and then run the Virtual Technician to see if it can find and fix any issues.  http://mvt.mcafee.com/

If that fails to help, uninstall all McAfee components via Control Panel > Programs and Features

Reboot if asked to.

Then run the MCPR cleanup tool and reboot.

Reinstall from your online account.

That should correct any problems.

What action was it that fixed it?

Thanks Ex_Brit! I had to resort to the MCPR cleanup tool (had to run it twice) and after reinstalling from my online account it now works again.

I'm so very thankful for your help!

Kind regards,

Samuel
