mfehidk.sys Problem!!!?

Hi, recently i tried to install mcafee on my laptop which i only bought new. I downloaded the installer but when i go to run it it always gives me the blue screen of death. I looked at the crash report which is now deleted and it said the cause was  mfehidk.sys Now apparently this file belongs to mcafee and makes the laptop crash but i want to know how can i resolve this problem??? This is soooo annoying :@

I currently have avast installed and there is no virus/malware presence on the laptop and i have windows 7.

Please reply A.S.A.P

Re: mfehidk.sys Problem!!!?

Run McAfee's Removal Tool (MCPR) linked under "Useful Links" at the top of this page.  Reboot as soon as it finishes and tells you to do so.

Re: mfehidk.sys Problem!!!?

Well nothing is guaranteed but you did say you are now using another brand and that is the tool that is supposed to remove all traces of McAfee Consumer Products.  It certainly can't harm to try it and you wont know if it works or not until you do so.

Re: mfehidk.sys Problem!!!?

I havnt tried installing it yet....

What is this problem?

why does it happen?

is there not a fix for it?

Re: mfehidk.sys Problem!!!?

I've posted the fix.  Why aren't you using it?

I've no idea why it happens, probably just some remnant of McAfee that is orphaned in the registry.  The tool should take care of it.

Re: mfehidk.sys Problem!!!?

Tried it there now and nope still crashed my laptop. I had to do a system restore.

I tried to post the crash dump but it says i dont have the correct permission even tho i do!!!

im soo angry right now!!!!

What do i do now?

I'm sorry but I think you need to contact Technical Support Online Chat - it's free.

Re: mfehidk.sys Problem!!!?

They said the problem belongs to windows but i dont believe that as the file thats causing the problem belongs to mcafee.

Support are useless, worst suppose session ever...

Re: mfehidk.sys Problem!!!?

Well I hate to say this but the fact that you had problems running MCPR removal tool tells me that something is radically wrong with your operating system to start with as it should run with ease.

Either the registry is messed up, commonly caused by Registry cleaners and optimizers, use of which I do not recommend, or you have some unknown infection, see below.

You could simply try deleting that one file and you may have to boot into Safe Mode in order to do it.

It's located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers  (assuming C: is the drive in question).
