Windows 8 won't update with TotalProtection removed!!

Jump to solution

I am having issues upgrading to Win8. I have a Win7 Starter Mini HP and trying to upgrade to Win8. I also have TP subscription valid till 2014. When I started the upgrade, the Win8 installer asked me to uninstall  McAfee TP, I did and then restarted. When I started the installer again, it gave me the same message (eventhough I had completely uninstalled TP!!) and now it will not proceed till I remove McAfee TP. How can I make this message form Win8 Installer go away and continue to install Win8? Curiously, my desktop upgrade with TP to Win8 was completely trouble-free - Neither did I get any messages from Win8 nor did I have to remove TP.

HELP!!!!!

There's actually a FAQ on removing security software prior to upgrading a system or even using System Restore which is going to be updated to bring dates current HERE.

Run MCPR cleanup tool and reboot and then continue your upgrade.  It's listed under Useful Links at the top of this page.

Glad it helped.   FYI always either disable or uninstall security software whenever upgrading a system or even installing a service pack, if and when that becomes necessary, hopefully not for a while.
