What's blocking my wireless laptop from acquiring/adding wireless printer?

In December, I downloaded 2010 version of McAfee Total Protection. I subsequently lost access to Lexmark Wireless Printer. I recently purchased new Brother Multi-Function Wireless Printer and have been unsucessful in virtually connecting this printer to my laptop. The printer picks up wireless SSID and connects. But, laptop doesn't locate printer on wireless network. Brother manual says to disable all firewall/protection software. I'm assuming I have done this via McAfee Center, but am I missing a step in disabling all aspects of McAfee? What else could be the problem? Thanks-

Re: What's blocking my wireless laptop from acquiring/adding wireless printer?

Hi,

Check the date and time, if it is not correct, correct it and restart the computer

What is the type of Operating system ? ( Windows XP / Windows VISTA / Windows 7 )

What is the type of internet connection ? ( DSL / Dial-up / Cable / Wireless / Satellite )

When you open mcafee it says Am I protected?YES (or) Am I protected? No (or) Your Computer is secure (or) Your Computer is at risk

Get back to us with the above details.

Re: What's blocking my wireless laptop from acquiring/adding wireless printer?

Date/time is correct. Operating system is Windows XP. Internet connection is DSL. McAfee status is protected, but I proceed with disabling in order to try and pick up wireless connection with printer (as per Brother Printer instructions). No luck....am getting the sense that something is still blocking laptop from picking up additional wireless equipment and am thinking it is somehow related to McAfee 2010 protection.

Re: What's blocking my wireless laptop from acquiring/adding wireless printer?

Hi,

Open security center , click Internet & network
Click configure to the right pane
Click advanced for Firewall protection is enabled
Click programs permission from the left pane – And check whether the printer is been granted FULL ACCESS under program permissions.
Click system services from the left pane and uncheck the ports
6881-6999/TCP or depending upon printer manual
click apply & Ok and then check whether the printer is detected.
