Re: Virtual Technician froze during installation; cancel does nothing

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\McAfee

Delete the folder called supportability

Go to C:\Program files\McAfee

Delete the folder called supportability

Try to re-install MVT from http://mvt.mcafee.com/mvt/mvtinstaller.asp

Let me know the status

Re: Virtual Technician froze during installation; cancel does nothing

When I attempt to do the following:

Go to C:\Program files\McAfee
Delete the folder called supportability

It will not allow me to delete the folder and gives the following error message:

Cannot delete MVT.dll Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write protected

and that the file is not currently in use.

Re: Virtual Technician froze during installation; cancel does nothing

Hi,

Try to delete the file in safe mode and then re-install the MVT.

Re: Virtual Technician froze during installation; cancel does nothing

I re-booted the computer and was able to delete the supportability folder. The reinstallation from the link stopped at the same point as it had previously - which is when it is installing the MVT.dll file.

I was taking this route because my McAfee regularly tells me that my system guard is turned off so I am unprotected.  I don't know what would turn it off, so was trying to trouble shoot that problem.. It seems that trying to solve one problem is causing another.  Suggestions?

Re: Virtual Technician froze during installation; cancel does nothing

Hi,

Few things I want to clarify,

Is this a first time you are trying to install MVT?

What is the Operating system you use?

Do you have the MVT in add and remove list.IF yes, Then you try uninstalling the McAfee Vritual technican from the add and remove program list and try to reinstall.

Or

Use the MVT installer file to remove the trace of MVT.

What is the version of McAfee software you run with? (Open McAfee security center – click on About  – post the Buil verison of McAfee product)

We would like to know if you made any recent changes to (Hardware or software) the system.

Highlighted

Re: Virtual Technician froze during installation; cancel does nothing

today is the first time I am trying to install MVT

My operating system is XP service pack 3

by Add or remove list, I assume you mean add or remove programs - it is not there that I see.

How do I Use the MVT installer file to remove the trace of MVT?

version of McAfee software-security center build 9.15.160 last update 11/18/2009.

any recent changes to (*Hardware or software*) the system - not that I know of - how do I tell? I do have a teenager.

Re: Virtual Technician would not install properly

I had a problem with Mcafee and to reinstall it McAfee Techinician was not working. I tried to downloand and fix it.  That did not work. I tried to uninstall using add/remove programs.  if said it could not removemvt_enus{i}.msi.  Is there another uninstall tool so I can remove Cirtual Technician and reinstall it?

Thanks

Re: Virtual Technician would not install properly

You can run the MVT installation file from the web site and choose remove. Reboot then rerun file and install the pprogram.
