I have a flash drive that I only use on one computer. I work off of it and backup on PC once a month. This morning, I tried accessing the drive, and it opened just fine. However, one of the folders is what I would call corrupted. When I open the folder, it is littered with symbols as file names with extremely weird dates and times. This is the only folder that is like this. It has it listed as "Read-only" in attributes in properties, but I cannot get that to change. This just happened out of nowhere. Shut down computer last night and it was working fine. Turned on this morning and it is not working. I tried doing some command read only resets and scans, but none of the scans I have tried find anything wrong with the drive or its contents. I have attached a copy of the page when opened to the folder that has been corrupted. I am not sure corrupt is the correct name, but it is the only way I can describe it. Sometimes, it also states that I do not have permission to open the files or drive. If anyone has any suggestions to help me recover all, or some, of the files on that drive in that folder I would be very appreciative.
Yes, I have tried the chkdsk, ran command as administrator clearing the readonly, tried changing the file name but it does not allow me to, and tried moving the folder, then just one file, to another location and renaming, but that also did not help. I just did a recovery tool and recovered the entire drive except for the one folder I really need. I know the picture is bad, hoped it would be better but was only a screen print. If you would give me your instructions for chkdsk (that is through the registry command, correct) then I can verify it was completed correctly.
I have file names that look like this....╞┼Rò╧Ln .ⁿ? listed as opens with the Windows Shell Common Dll. The folder itself shows it is read only but the files inside are not. However, in the dialog box when you open the folder, it shows each of the files have a size, but when you go to properties, it just shows the file size as 0 bytes. The date is listed as 12/10/2069! If I try to right click and open the file, it says H:\.....╞┼Rò╧Ln .ⁿ? "The specified path does not exist. Check the path and then try again."
I am just so confused and have been messing with it all day. If there is no chance I can recover this folder, I need to give up. I appreciate any help you can give. I did run a few spyware/malware programs earlier today, but they found nothing. I have not tried the one you linked, however. So, I will do that until I hear back from you. Thanks!
I linked about 7 I suggest Malwarebytes (free), adwcleaner, Zemana as a start. Also use the getsusp tool to see if it finds anything suspect anywhere. Note to add your email to it's preferences before you run it.
That said we mods are not virus techs or hardware gurus just users like yourself so the suggestions are only a thought sorry.
The 1 folder is what is interesting me if all drives I would assume the PC is encrypted by a ransomware but you received no popup nor is it anything bar the 1 folder.
chkdsk can be run by right clicking the drive and choosing properties and Tools and scanning it from there. You also can do it from a command prompt (with admin privileges) using the chkdsk e: /r where e: the drive.
You can also try running this Application created by Malwarebytes AdwCleaner creator https://betanews.com/2017/06/13/blocked-from-running-security-software-avcertclean-can-help/ It will help to remove any possible Ransomware. .Please read carefully.

I recommend you try the Farbar option and see if the specialist forum mentioned there can help with this as I can't see what McAfee can do about this, other than go the paid support route, but that would be expensive.
