What's the name of the McAfee suite that you installed, whet operating system is this and does your machine exceed the minimum system requirement?

The suite I bought is All Access
My system does exceed he minimum requirements by a long way
I have a high speed connection
I had Norton on before and I did completely uninstall it but I didn't know about the cleanup tool
Then you may try as Peter suggested,and use the Norton Removal Tool; Uninstall your Norton product using Norton Removal Tool

Thanks for all the help. I'm busy running the Norton Removal Tool at the moment. When its done I'll restart my pc and hopefully it should be better.
Anytime Peter.... Also that was another good suggestion/Advice. For we have had a lot of users lately attempting to run both McAfee/Spybot S&D side by side. Which is no longer compatible, especially with the Tea Timer activated.
Thanks CD and Peter but I'm sorry to have to tell you that that hasn't worked. Norton ran through all its uninstalling, I've restarted my PC but it is still incredibly slow. Any other suggestions ?
CD mentioned Spybot as a possible culprit, do you have it or any other anti-malware software onboard especially one with active protection turned on?
