My computer unexpectedly restarts after installing mcafee?

I had Kaspersky Internet Security for about a year and my year finally finished. I didn't want to buy a new license because i figured out that Cox Communications offers a McAfee Security Suite to anyone who subscribes to there internet service.

Anyway

I uninstalled kaspersky from my computer and installed McAfee. Everything was going well with it for about a day and suddenly it restarted on its own. I ignored it. But now it just keeps restarting on its own unexpectedly without a warning.

I used to have Windows One Live Care about 2 years ago (before i Installed Kaspersky) and had the same problem .it would just restart on its own without warning. Especially when i surfed the web. When i had kaspersky this didn't happen but as soon as i installed Mcafee the problem resurfaced.

What could be the problem ?
i know there isnt a virus becuase i have scanned my computer hundreds of times with Kaspersky Mcafee and Pcpitstop (not at the same time of course) and nothing has shown up

Re: My computer unexpectedly restarts after installing mcafee?

Did you run the Kaspersky removal tool before installing McAfee?

http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208279463  see ID Article 1464 about halfway down on the right.

There is also a Windows Live One Care removal tool:  http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/c/b/4cb845e7-1076-437b-852a-7842a8ab13c8/OneCareCleanUp.exe

Try running it and see if things improve.

If more help is needed please post more information.

What is your operating system, service pack and are you up to date with Microsoft update?  There are two ways of checking this.  Go to Start/Run and type in winver then click the Enter key.  Or, right-click My Computer in the Start Menu or on your desktop (or Computer in Vista) and select Properties.  Post what it says.

What McAfee products do you have?  Right-click the taskbar icon and select Open SecurityCenter and then click "View Details" or "About" at the lower right of the new window.  Post the details from each module

Re: My computer unexpectedly restarts after installing mcafee?

Is there anything in the Event Viewer in XP to tell you what happened at that moment it rebooted?  You'll find that in Computer Management I think,  Sorry I don't have XP any more.

I'm retiring for the night soon so you may wish to continue this with the Technical Support Chat people.  See McAfee Support at top of this page then click Home & Home Office Support then Technical Support.

Re: My computer unexpectedly restarts after installing mcafee?

Usually those events have a link you can cvlick for further information online.

You might want to do the following to make sure that at least the hard disk is OK

Go to Start/Run and type in chkdsk /r (with the spaces)

If you have more than one you can specify chkdsk C: /r (with both the spaces)

Then click the Enter key.

You'll get an error that the disk is in use, try at next reboot Y/N type in Y and hit the Enter key.

Reboot and let it proceed.

See what transpires from that.

Edit:  I work from home so am off to bed now.  You can either wait until morning or use the Technical Support Chat , it is free.

Re: My computer unexpectedly restarts after installing mcafee?

None of those give me any clue as to what's going on.  This could be hardware issues or some software you have that is clashing with McAfee.  I strongly advise you to open a case with Technical Support Chat.

Meanwhile you could download the free versions of these two anti-malware tools, update them before running and let them remove anything they find.  Reboot if asked to.

http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

The latter may be run successfully in Safe Mode if necessary.

If the problem continues I would open a case with TS as I mentioned above plus you could if you like post a Hijackthis log on one of the following forums stating what is happing and ask their advice.

DOWNLOAD HIJACKTHIS

Do not post the log here, we can't help!
