I know there are many many posts about this but some don't seem to be the same issue and I have tried all actions I can see in these posts so if anyone has any other suggestions I would appreciate it.
Basically the firewall is always turned off and when it's turned back on will switch back after a few seconds.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling mcaffe...I've ran rootkit, stinger and virtual technician and none have helped. I have tried to restore computer both to a previous time and do a complete factory restore but this causes an error message and won't do it.
Also it blocks the Internet either entirely or sometime it will allow Internet explorer to run but will close down shortly after. I'm also unable to run the computer in safe mode - this starts to load then freezes then the computer restarts do alot of things that have helped others won't work.
any suggestions would be really helpful as I'm completely out of ideas now.
1 Have you uninstalled it via http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS101331
reboot and raun
reinstall from your account.
Of course this assumes that if you had another AV or firewall installed previously that you uninstalled it via its own removal tool. This can mess up Mcafee's install if not done.
2. Go to start run and type services.msc and ensure the windows firewall is set to auto and started.
If this does not help better contact support in the link in useful links tab above.

yes i have uninstalled and installed already as above and no there are no other firewalls on the computer.
i have since contacted tech support who have updated windows but again this hasn't solved the problem. I haven't been able to contact again yet to say it hasn't worked
What are the settings for windows firewall?
Also as mentioned in another similiar thread
Kindly go through how do you use Stinger? Using the below link:
Also, you can download & run the McAfee Stinger Scan using the following link:Message was edited by: Peacekeeper on 27/09/12 5:59:32 AM
This seems to be a big problem at this time. Mine started doing the same after updating Mcafee 2 days ago. Pop up continues that comp may be at risk, try turning on firewall and it just stops again. I just ran Mcafee Total Protection, checking for any problems with none appearing. I use Windows Vista . I, myself, will try the stinger d/l with hopes that it doesn't cause more headaches .
