What update was this was this? The only mcafee update 2 weeks ago that was done was the mcshield/mcagent fix and that was Australia only. Before that was the mcshield fix and that 1 was a very minor fix. I assume you are talking about the update to version 10 ie 2010 that Dell users got is that correct?
There is a fix for BSODs on amd cpu installed PCs coming in 2 weeks but another cause is being looked into and it isn't a high instance of users. I is my feel it is mainly Dell Pcs and I will discuss this in our call tomorrow. Can you reinterate your OS Pc type cpu ram etc please. Ok reading back you
OS windows 7 64 bit
Not a mcafee user now
2 weeks is a short time in this situation sorry and notifications are not usually put on the web site I suppose for commercial reasons. We try to get announcements placed in the forum when the issue escalates thoughMessage was edited by: Peacekeeper on 20/09/10 7:02:07 AM
Thank you Peacekeeper. I am talking about the update to version 10 ie 2010 that Dell users got. The BSOD occurred on approximately 9/7/10. I rolled back and experienced the BSOD a day later after McAfee Total Protection updated again. Removing McAfee has solved the problem.
I am a dell user
Intel Core i7
8 gb RAM
64 bit windows home premium
Thank you for your assistance. Please let me know if you need additional information.
That will do though those are my specs and EX_brits another mod. He has an alienware dell win 7 64 bit I have a custom built same setup but not Dell. What we do not have though is a dell supplied Mcafee I don't suppose you ever looked at the version ie the affid id tells us where the version comes from. Did you get it via Dell?
I want to sort this out I chased through the mcsvhost and mcshield issues and they now have fixes these BSODS are my next issue to keep in front of Mcafee.Message was edited by: Peacekeeper on 20/09/10 1:54:24 PM
I have just downloaded today's update (DAT 6111) onto a Toshiba Satellite running win7 64bit. Upgrade was v slow to execute and asked for a restart. Restart was followed by BSOD. Tried again - same result. Restarted in safe mode - opened McAfee - it launched but said real time scanning was disabled and wouldn't start it. Shut down from safe mode - tried normal restart and system now appears to be working. It shakes ones confidence in the product.
I run a second system that uses XP system (belt and braces approach) and that is fine except that MVT insists mfevtps.exe is missing although I can find it in 2 locations other than where MVY expects it and the Task Manager says the program is running!
peacekeeper, I have an Acer notebook with an intel i3, running windows 7. I am using Mcafee security suite that was provided by Acer preinstalled trial software. I did buy the full version before the trial ended and it was running and updating fine until the Mcafee update on 9-14-2010.
Now I get the BSOD and the continual restarts as many have explained and was fortunate to be able to get to safe mode. I did the uninstall and reinstall several times as well as using the Mcafee removal tool. I have given up and installed another service and everything is fine now.
I was just wondering if Mcafee was working on a solution for other than Dell and AMD. It sounds like this is a widespread problem rather than just some driver conflicts by these two companies.
BTW, I did chat with Mcafee and did all of the suggested fixes. However none of them worked.
Thanks for any furthur info.
1st anyone with amd cpu and maybe toshiba PC/laptop the fix is due for release on australian server Thursday (could change). So when it comes it will be throttled so best way to get it is to uninstall and reinstall from the aussie server.
AcerLP that sounds the issue dell users are seeingI assume win 7 64 bit version?
Have you a wireless network card installed? If so what is the brand / chipset and driver version. The techs seem to have found something that they are getting stirred up over.
You are correct peacekeeper, it is windows 7 64 bit version and it does have a wireless network card. Where can I go to get the brand, chipset and driver version ? It will be later tonight or tomorrow before I will be able/home to get the info off my Acer laptop.
Thanks again for your help.Message was edited by: AcerLP on 9/20/10 4:56:25 PM CDT
