Anyone else having this issue? When McAfee checks for updates and finds one , all has been OK. But , if one is not found and you get the message that all is up to date , when the Security Center finishes and you close it out , there is a new McAfee icon on the desktop. Been happening now for a couple days.
Running McAfee VS Plus on an XP SP3 system.
Oh no, this problem is back. I will report it on our conference call with McAfee on Monday afternoon. Meanwhile if you have patience enough to wait you could try Technical Support linked under Useful Links at the top of this page but they are very busy right now follwoing a bad update that effected many people adversely.Message was edited by: Ex_Brit on 19/08/12 7:09:18 EDT PM
Interesting, I didn't connect the bad DAT with this particular issue. Please let us know if it works for you.Message was edited by: Ex_Brit on 20/08/12 5:59:53 EDT AM
The same issue happened with my beta install and I also did not think of the dat issue. So far my beta behaving itself as well so possible teh dat issue has many disguises.
I tried the command prompt approach and it made no difference. There is no way on dialup that I can uninstall/reinstall as that takes over 11 hours. Not sure if what I am seeing is the dat issue , though. The last dat received was 6807 on 8/17. Since that time , manual update attempts have resulted in "checking for updates" and then being told I was up to date.
NOTE: the Security Center works just fine - no error messages received.
Is there a way to get just the dat file other than the SuperDAT?

Thanks. At 100 megs , while shorter , is too large to download. It will take almost 6 hours. The daily DAT never takes more than 5-6 minutes on dialup. Why is that file so huge?
