McAfee SecurityCenter: unsuccessful uninstall

Due to repeated Update Manager error messages, I attempted to uninstall my ATT McAfee Security Center and SiteAdvisor, but they won't uninstall.

Here's what I tried:

I removed all third party malware/spyware programs (i.e. MalwareBytes)

I ran McAfee Virtual Technician. (It found errors but did not fix them)

I tried ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS to remove SecurityCenter: I get an error message "McAfee UI Host needs to close" . I can not get to the uninstall process once the "needs to close" screen in cleared.

.

I tried ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS to remove Site Advisor. I get an error message "Site Avisor needs to close". I can not get to the uninstall process once the "needs to close" screen in cleared.

I downloaded MCPR.exe. It ran to show only that it was extracting files, but there was no other action. Nothing else happened.

I want to clean ATT McAfee Security Center out of this Windows XP computer, and reinstall from ATT. How to do this?

Re: McAfee SecurityCenter: unsuccessful uninstall

To remove programs you need to be logged in as an Administrator and it's best to make sure that all other software is closed. but there should be no need to uninstall Malwarebytes for instance as that wont interfere with a McAfee removal.

Make sure all programs are shut down and attempt to uninstall again via Control Panel.

Follow the instructions here:  How to uninstall or re-install supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool

Re: McAfee SecurityCenter: unsuccessful uninstall

Thank you for your assistance. I appreciate it.

It seems your suggestions are essentially what I have already done, but for completeness I tried again in the following:

Here's what I did after your post (in this order:)

Restarted the computer

I am the administrator and have control of all functions.

I downloaded MCPR.exe.

I closed all programs.

I ran MCPR.exe > "Extracting Files. Please Wait."> then nothing. No hourglass. No action. Nil. Task Manager shows no program running.

I used Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs > McAfee Security Center > Change/Remove> Error Message: McAfee UI Host encountered a problem and needs to close. Send Error Report?"

Whether I send the error report or not, I can not get to the Uninstall step.

I still can not uninstall McAfee and I am most grateful for any suggestions.

Thank you.

Re: McAfee SecurityCenter: unsuccessful uninstall

Are you connected to the internet?  The software needs to download files.
