Conflict with Windows Defender?

Am "reconstructing" my machine.

Hard drive died and I had no backup. ( I accept your choice of adjective.)

I have waded through reinstalling Windows and Explorer. Even though I advised I did NOT want defender it was put on my machine.

I find where I can turn it off but as I understand it I cannot erase or un-install  it?

Is McAfee compatible with explorer when Defender is "just" turned off and not un-installed?

I would need to download from the McAfee site.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Conflict with Windows Defender?

It all depends upon your OS. In Windows Vista/ 7 it is compatible. In Windows 8/8.1 it is not, as it contains Anti-Virus Capabilities. For those whom continue to run Windows XP, it is also Compatible.

Re: Conflict with Windows Defender?

If it is windows 7 Mcafee will accept it being there

In Windows 8 and 8.1 (& above) the installation of any antivirus should automatically disable Windows Defender altogether as it contains an antivirus of its own in those systems and running two together could lead to trouble

Sorry CD posted same time at least that gives the OP 2 same opinions
