You mean to stop antivirus detection, no. That feature once existed but now is only part of the corporate or enterprise software. You can exclude files and folders from a manual or scheduled scan but not from the real-time scanner. The only exception is if something is identified as a PUP, a possibly unwanted programme, then you can tell the software to ignore it.
There is a submission method to obtain exemptions though, read HERE.
I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I'm looking for protection like Microsoft's "AppLocker" that allows only executables to run from certain locations. All others are stopped from running. It is in addition to antivirus protection.
You mean like the built-in Windows 7 and 8 feature? I think the nearest equivalent would be Parental Controls which is included in Internet Security, Total Protection and All Access home/home-office products.

As far as I know whitelisting is possible only in McAfee's Enterprise offerings, not in the Consumer versions.
I wonder what it means about "McAfee Embedded Control for Consumer and Home Networking"?
You mean this?

I have aboslutely no idea. Hayton, do you?
That's the Hong Kong website by the way - I have a feeling this is another Intel feature that noone has bothered to tell anyone about.

Yes, these are the pages I was reading. It says "Consumer and Home Networking" like this is different from the Enterprise software version. You see, I have been using Microsoft's AppLocker for months now, successfully, and enjoy knowing there is another layer of protection in my PC between me and some zero day malware. I may accidently click on a link that downloads a malicious app, but it won't be allowed to run, because no executables may run from a user directory under AppLocker. AppLocker is included in Windows 7 Ultimate version. However, Windows 8 does not have AppLocker in any consumer version; only in the enterprise version is it available. This is unfortunate, for the extra protection is valuable. This presents a huge opportunity to McAfee, to develop a consumer version that works, without needing an IT professional in the house. AppLocker is kind-of clunky, Im sure McAfee could do it better. Then one has antivirus and whitelising working together- a stronger defense!
I don't know the first thing about it unfortunately even though I do have Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 8 Pro. We do have a Product ideas section here: https://community.mcafee.com/community/home/ideas
