Why the virus def. file (.dat) permission changing?

Jump to solution

We update McAfee virus defination file daily from ftp://anonymous:anonymous@ftp.mcafee.com/commonupdater

I noticed that the files permission contain in avvdat***.zip changing from time to time.

fox example, the avvnames.dat file ussually has permission as -rw-r--r--, however, on sept. 14, the permission was -rwSrwSr-t

Why was setUID, setGID (s) added?

Is there any issue if I modify the permission after I download the virus defination file? e.g. chmod -s

Thanks

That I can't help with i'm afraid.

Hence I only answered the question in the body and not the title.

If it's a issue, you can always use the .tar package instead.

Rob.
