USB boot environment for Command line scanner

Hello,

I tried to use the Command Line Scanner (CLS) using a USB device with DOS boot environment. But the CLS can't be used in DOS mode . Which (freeware) USB-Boot environment (OS) can I use to run the CLS using a USB boot device? If possibe please post the (freeware) resource link to format the USB stick with the needed boot files.

Thanks and regards

Janni

Re: USB boot environment for Command line scanner

Take a look at McAfee support article KB67088 - 'How to create a Windows XP boot CD including McAfee Command Line Scanner.' but please consider the caution in the article: 'This solution is largely based on non-McAfee software and is not supported by McAfee. Usage of this article is entirely at your own risk.'

Re: USB boot environment for Command line scanner

Hi,

thanks a lot. This works fine to create a boot CD. But how to create a XP boot USB (stick) device? It's much more better to use a USB device, because it's faster to update the DAT signatures.

That I don't know, although I would hazard a guess and say it's not likely to be very different in principle.

Although updating dats on usb is easier because it's writable, if you are planning this for malware cleanup I would say using a witeable media device is a potential risk.
