Mcafee core dumps in aix

Are there any cli commands for mcafee related to core dumps (where they write to, or how they are named) for aix?

You are posting in an area devoted to problems with the forum interface only.   What product are your asking about here, and then I will move the thread accordingly?

Re: Mcafee core dumps in aix

It has to be Enterprise, there are only two McAfee products listed for AIX (see below)

McAfee, Inc. - Downloads - Free Product Evaluations.png

Re: Mcafee core dumps in aix

It is McAfee virus scan enterprise edition, version 6.0.0.309, according to uvscan --version.

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum, but any help pointing me to the correct cli guide would be appreciated.

Re: Mcafee core dumps in aix

'Fraid not.

If you're getting a core dump and to know it's from using vscl (ViruScan Command Line) you would need to open a support case.

Only our dev guys can analyse a core dump for this product.

If you're looking how to force a core dump on AIX, you'll need to refer to IBM on-line documentation.

something like this might help.

http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/aix/library/au-javaonaix_core.html?ca=drs-

In the mean time please note that V6.0.3 is current, not V6.0.0.

Finally core dump is quite unusual, suggest you make sure you are excluding /proc & /dev filesystems from scanning. it's never a good idea to try scanning direct unix I/O.

Rob.

Re: Mcafee core dumps in aix

Thanks for the answers.

We had a core dump from McAfee Viruscan fill /root. So I am trying to determine if I can change the configuration of the software to write dumps to other locations.

Followup questions:

1) Can anyone send me a link to a Viruscan command line document, version 6.0.0 or newer?

2) Can anyone send me a link on how to open a support ticket for future reference, and how that is entitled (what authentication will I need to open a ticket, serial numbers, customer numbers, etc)?

Re: Mcafee core dumps in aix

Q1 : https://mysupport.mcafee.com/Eservice/productdocuments.aspx and select 'VirusScan Command Line Scanner'. You'll see this list :

McAfee ServicePortal.png

The Release Notes may be useful but you probably want the Product Guide - released with v6.00.0

Re: Mcafee core dumps in aix

Q2,:

One way is to use the 'Manage Service Requests' link here:

https://mysupport.mcafee.com/Eservice/Default.aspx

You'll need to register if not already done so. For that you will likey need your McAfee Grand ID.

Hth,

Rob.
