Computer locks up with McAfee Application Control

I have McAfee Agent 5.5.1.342 deployed to about 10 machines that are all either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 ultimate. If I rdp into a machine the CPU usage goes to a 100% for a period of time. After the CPU usage usually goes down to around 50%. Even after the CPU usage goes down and no matter what I'm doing on the machines they will freeze and become unresponsive. What's weird is when the CPU usage goes to 100% or when the machine locks up there aren't any processes that increase. The ePO Orchestrator is used in a closed evironment along with the 10 machines with no internet or external access. I can still ping the machines but cannot login from another machine through rdp or ssh. The machines will typicllay lockup for around 5-30 minutes and than everything will go back to normal and than the system will lockup again. Any idea what could be causing this? When I log into the ePO Orchestrator I don't see any alerts or threats on the machine when it locks up. In the McAfee Agent, Solidcore logs or Windows Event viewer I don't see anything that sticks out either. I'm currently using ePO version 5.9.1 and Solidcore Client for Windows 8.2.0.140.

Re: Computer locks up with McAfee Application Control

what version of solidcore are you testing? What process is causing the cpu to go to 100%? What is your asci to sync with EPO set as?

We would need a procmon and mer to understand your issue. Does this lock up happen every 5, 30, or hour? if thats the case it could be the mcafee agent syncing the policy. What other software are you running thats mcafee

Re: Computer locks up with McAfee Application Control

The version of solid core is 8.2.0 Minor Version 140. When this happens I don't see any processes that are going any higher during this time period. The current policy enforcement is set to 60 minutes and the Agent-server communication is set to 5 minutes.

Re: Computer locks up with McAfee Application Control

Please set your agent-server- communication to 60 mins (which is default). See if it helps. Looks like you have changed this from 60 to 5 mins.

If not

Please test with 8.2.1.114

Re: Computer locks up with McAfee Application Control

I made the requested changes and the scsrvc.exe service CPU usage continues to rise slowly.

What do you mean rise slowly? like it rises 10% every 20 mins and stays forever?

Re: Computer locks up with McAfee Application Control

I changed the policy to not enforcing for Application Control on January 4, for this machine. Is there a way I can disable solidcore or kill the service without rebooting the machine? The machine is in an ics and cannot be rebooted.

In regards to CPU memory usage when the machine froze up completely on January 4, it wouldn’t allow to me login through Windows to reboot. I had to hard reboot the system. Upon starting backup Memory usage was around 27,000 for the solidcore scsrvc.exe. Today the Memory usage is around 47,000. The McAfee Agent memory usage completely normal and hasn’t changed.

Re: Computer locks up with McAfee Application Control

No, when I called they said I needed a grant number. Is there another way to open a case?

Re: Computer locks up with McAfee Application Control

no you would need support grant to open a case.

the issue is support needs to look at your log to understand the issue. How many machines do you have deployed? if demoing have you reached out to your sales guy to get a temp grant for support?

This issue seems to be complex. We are going to need a MER and Gatherinfo and possibly a procmon to understand the issue. Which is why i stated to open a case with support and we can help you solve.
