I now have my son's old laptop. I only use it once a week or so, and it is locked every time I try to use it. I have the password, so I can get in, but it is annoying to have to do that.
How can I either change the password to something simpler, or get rid of the lock completely?
Google brings me here, but I don't see anything helpful. Thanks.

Didn't help. The Toshiba E305 won't allow it to be changed in BIOS and none of the Intel sites are valid. Apparently Intel is discontinuing it in January. Can I never use my computer again, or does it just stop coming up?
I have pinged a tech to respond though what Safeboot gave you should have helped. no matter kep a watch for teh tech to come in I am unsure of his work schedule.
While you are waiting for a Tech, see if the Uninstall part of this FAQ helps How to install and uninstall McAfee Anti-Theft 2.x It may still work even though the feature was discontinued.
Although it may not help as you want to disable it altogether in the BIOS, the tech that Peacekeeper has pinged will hopefully help you with that.
Please run the Intel ESU utility to know if your Device is enrolled or not enrolled with Anti Theft Service.
The ESU tool can be downloaded from this link

Please post the screenshot of the Utility after executing it. Let me know if you find it hard running the tool.
1) It is not listed under the control panel. Something called "PC Theft Defense" is listed, but I think that is different. In any event, when I try to delete it, I don't get a "uninstall" button.
2) Running ESU.EXE I get the following:
AT Enrollment Code = 2
AT Enrollment Status = Active
Remaining Time to Lock = 6 Day(s) 23 Hour(s)
ISU ID = 13000
Platform ID = 0RZ0B5NMTC31ZUG
