Dear All,
May I ask your help to upgrade the ATD 3.8.0.29.58939 to the latest version. I have gone through some documents that states it cannot be upgraded directly to the latest version and suggested the below paths.
version | Upgrade Path |
4.0.2 | 4.0.2 » 4.4.0 » 4.6.0 » 4.6.2 |
4.0.4 | 4.0.4 » 4.4.0 » 4.6.0 » 4.6.2 |
4.0.6 | 4.0.6 » 4.4.0 » 4.6.0 » 4.6.2 |
4.2.0 | 4.2.0 » 4.6.0 » 4.6.2 |
4.2.2 | 4.2.2 » 4.6.0 » 4.6.2 |
4.4.0 | 4.4.0 » 4.6.0 » 4.6.2 |
4.4.2 | 4.4.2 » 4.6.0 » 4.6.2 |
4.6.0 | 4.6.0 » 4.6.2 |
Kindly walk me through with the upgrade procedure. Many thanks in advance.

In answer to your questions,
1 - You are correct. You are at 3.8.0 and can migrate to 4.2.0 and then proceed further as outlined.
2 - 3.8 > 4.2 > 4.6 > 4.8
3 - The clean install he is referencing is a reimage of the device. It is nice because it skips all the steps above, but the downside is that you lose your configuration, analysis history and VMs (unless you have them backed up) and have to start from scratch.
Support can assist you in backing up your VMs if you decide you want to go the reimage route.
Hi Venu,
1. As you are already at 3.8, you can directly jump to Step 2 i.e. migrate to 4.2 using migration package.
2. Once you are at 4.2, migrate to either 4.4 or 4.6 and then migrate to 4.8.
Using the migration package you can upgrade the ATD to 4.8 without losing data.
A clean install (reimage) is an alternative where you can directly go to 4.8 from 3.8 (with the clean install you lose all the data).
I hope this answers your question.

Faizan

Hi Venu,
ATD 4.8 is the latest available release. Irrespective of the version, upgrade of the ATD appliance is done using the application package; named as 'migration‑4.X.X.X.XXXXX.msu'
You cannot migrate to Advanced Threat Defense 4.8.0 directly using the migration package. You can:
1 Upgrade to Advanced Threat Defense version 3.8.0.
2 Migrate to 4.2.x.
3 Migrate to 4.4.x or 4.6.x.
4 Migrate or upgrade to 4.8.0.
Perform a clean install of Advanced Threat Defense 4.8.0 on your appliance.
Note: If you perform a clean install, you lose all your data and configurations.
For more details, please refer Migration Guide of ATD 4.8, (and other version migration guides) are available on the download portal:

Hope this answers your queries.

Thank you very much for the swift reply Faizan a.k.a @fkazi04 ,
Can you clarify me with the below points again please.
1. I alreay have ATD 3.8.0.29.58939, so I have no need to upgrade ATD 3.8.0, instead I assume that I could migrate ATD 3.8.0.29.58939 to 4.2.x, if I am right.
2. After migrating ATD 4.2.x, then I could further migrate to 4.6.x and upgrade 4.6.x to 4.8.0, is that right?
3. You have stated to perform a clean install of ATD 4.8.0, why is that whenn I am performing the above steps, please help me with your answers as I am very new to ATD and this is my first attempt so I should be cautious while I upgrade the ATD in our environment.
Many thanks for the reply and I await your help again.
