I am trying to script an install for McAfee on Windows7. I encounter a problem where Defender asks to be disabled (even though I have disabled this), has anyone encountered this and if yes, has anyone got a work around or fix?
I have read numerous forums where they state that Windows Defender is integrated into Windows7 and cannot be removed. I have over 1500 workstations that this needs to be deployed to and need to get this working.
Any assistance will be appreciated.
I assume you are using Enterprise (1500 work stations) so I or another mod will move this to that area if this is so
Moved to Business General Discussion for better attention.
Are you not using ePolicy Orchestrator to deploy VirusScan? And with that amount of workstations if not- why not?
What you do is deploy the agent to machines and the install task you create in ePO will install VirusScan and disable Defender on install automatically.

Thanks for the response.
We don't use GPO as the machines are being prepped in a clean environment via image deployment.
I have tested by doing a clean install and disabling Windows Defender yet when you run the setup (either manually by clicking setup or sending a scripted job) it still asks to disable Windows Defender. I am assuming that this has to do with some part of the McAfee install where it detects this.
Thanks for all the responses so far.
Are you installing VScan onto an image or to machines after they have been deployed.
Again- what happens when you want to change settings down the line- and deploy updates etc.
Do you not have ePO?
I install McAfee onto the PC/laptop after the clean image has been deployed to the unit.
EPO and updates run as they should if you perform a manual install.
Whether I deploy the job, run the script, or run manually from the workstation, it always asks to disable Defender even though it has been disabled.
Never seen that before, and windows defender was left alone on our image.
Can you attach the log VSEInst*.log to the post .
Also, does the same happen when you leave it enabled?
