Dynamic Endpoint Security 2 - Basic Endpoint

Version 20

    Prerequisites

Before continuing with this section, please ensure you have met the following prerequisites:

    Checking in Software Components

Our first step in deploying the Dynamic Endpoint will be to ensure that the basic endpoint security is deployed.  If you have already deployed McAfee VirusScan 8.8 or McAfee Endpoint Security 10.x to your desired endpoints, you can move on to: Dynamic Endpoint Security 3 - Data Exchange Layer and Threat Intelligence Exchange

McAfee ePO includes a Software Manager which makes it efficient to check-in packages and extensions.  Where possible, we will leverage this built-in tool.  To get into the software manager, go to the ePO Menu and click on ‘Software Manager’ under the Software section.

Software components will appear under the 'Software Not Checked In' section of the Software Manager initially.  Once you check in the first software component for a given product, subsequent packages or extensions will be available to check in under 'Checked In Software'.

You may choose to base your Dynamic Endpoint Security of one of two different foundation elements: VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 (VSE), or McAfee Endpoint Security 10.x (ENS).  We will now add the necessary software to bring either VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 or McAfee Endpoint Security 10.1 into McAfee ePO based on your environment.  Note that you will need to install only one set of extensions and packages.  If you choose to begin with ENS, please skip the section on "VirusScan Enterprise" and proceed immediately to "Endpoint Security 10.1".

    VirusScan Enterprise

The available components in the Software Manager will be based on the ePO key associated with your grant number.  Inside Software Manager, scroll down under "Software Not Checked In" until you see "VirusScan Enterprise 8.8". Check-in the following components for VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 by clicking ‘Check-In’ under actions on each of the following from within the Software Manager:

    • Management Extension (8.8.0.448)
    • Reports Extension (1.2.0.272)
    • Install – Windows (Patch 7) Client Installation Package (8.8.0.1528)

NOTE: The initial component check-in will appear under 'Software Not Checked In'.  All others will appear under 'Checked In Software'.

Make sure to check 'I accept the terms in the license agreement' and the click OK.

Wait for the component to complete the check in and then repeat the above steps for the remaining components.  Then continue below in the section labeled "Verifying Packages are Checked In".

    Endpoint Security 10.1

The available components in the Software Manager will be based on the ePO Key associated with your grant number.  Inside Software Manager, scroll down under 'Software Not Checked In' until you see 'McAfee Endpoint Security 10.1'. Check-in the following components for McAfee Endpoint Security 10.1 by clicking ‘Check-In’ under actions and checking 'on each of the following from within the Software Manager:

    • McAfee Endpoint Security 10.1 Bundle (10.1.0.649)
    • Endpoint Security Threat Prevention HF1111757 (10.1.0.1111757)

Make sure to check 'I accept the terms in the license agreement' and the click OK.

The bundle will check in 12 components all at once.  Wait for the first 12 components to complete the check in and then repeat the remaining two components.

    Verifying Packages are Checked In

To verify that all of the packages are checked in, view the Master Repository within ePO to see each component by opening the ePO Menu and clicking  on 'Master Repository'.

Once the Master Repository is opened, view the list of Packages and verify that the components you checked in are now there.

    Verifying Extensions are Checked In

To verify that all of the extensions are checked in, view the available policy in the Policy Catalog by opening the ePO Menu and clicking  on 'Policy Catalog'.

Once in the Policy Catalog, select the drop-down next to Product and view the list of available products to set policies for:

Now that you have successfully checked in software packages and extensions into ePO, please continue on to Dynamic Endpoint Security 3 - Data Exchange Layer and Threat Intelligence Exchange.
