Intel Security SNS ProTip for SIEM: How to troubleshoot Vulnerability Assessment scanner sources

Version 1

SIEM Support Engineers sometimes field calls where a new Vulnerability Assessment (VA) scan data is available, but is not collected or displayed in the Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) console. When a manual retrieval of the scan data is attempted, the user sees the following message in a popup dialog box:

Error. No data was returned from the VA data source (VAER27)

This issue can occur when the Active Directory (AD) section of the vathirdparty.conf file has a type field that contains no value. For example, in the partial vathirdparty.conf file shown below, there is no value after the equal (=) sign.

For information on how to correct this issue, see KB84601 (https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB84601 )
