McAfee SNS ProTip for VirusScan Enterprise: How to Determine the Effectiveness of Exclusions or Low-Risk Processes

    When you are attempting to fine tune your On-Access Scanner, it can be useful to determine whether or not a file type exclusion or Low-Risk Process has had any effect on system performance.

    Because the On-Access Scanner controls many other VirusScan Enterprise components including Buffer Overflow Protection and Access Protection, you might want to disable file scanning while still ensuring that other features remain enabled.

    You can configure the On-Access Scanner to only scan file types of "ZZZ" as a test to determine if your exclusions or Low-Risk processes are effective or if other VSE components are involved. For instructions on how to configure the scanner to perform a test, see KB67648:
