SNS ProTip for ePO:  How to manually configure and check 8.3 shortname paths for ePO using fsutil

Version 1

ePO often makes references to its own file paths using 8.3 shortnames. If these shortname paths are changed or removed, you may encounter issues where the ePO services fail to start or the ePO console is inaccessible due to numerous partially-installed Extension errors.

This problem most frequently occurs during the ePO migration process. If the target server for the migration does not have 8.3 shortnames enabled, the configuration files that contain the shortname paths will no longer be valid.

You can use the Microsoft fsutil command to check and change 8.3 shortname paths. For more information, see KB82122 (https://kb.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB82122).
