ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) depends on a constant connection to the SQL database. You can use a test.udl file as a generic test for SQL database connectivity.
When using a test.udl file for SQL's Windows authentication type, administrators must be logged in to Windows as the user they would like to test. The option to "use a specific username or password" is specifically for SQL authentication. For more information on the creation and use of a test.udl file, see KB70929 — Steps for testing SQL database connectivity using test.udl file (https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB70929).
