Many of you have asked about McAfee's plans to support the new MacBook Pro 9,1 hardware after we recently released a hotfix to support the other new Mac models.
On this model, Apple appears to have released hardware with two different Boot ROM versions. One is "MBP91.00D3.B02" and the other is "MBP91.00D3.B06". In McAfee's internal testing MBP9,1 models with the B02 Boot ROM will fail to work with EEMac while models with the B06 Boot ROM work as expected.
McAfee will be releasing another hotfix that will add the MBP9,1 model to the whitelist. A part of this hotfix will be to ensure that EEMac continues not to activate on MBP9,1 models with the B02 Boot ROM. MBP9,1 Models with the B02 Boot ROM will continue to remain unsupported. MBP9,1 models with the B06 BootROM will activate and encrypt as expected once this hotfix has been applied.
Alternatively, customers who have an MBP9,1 model with the B06 Boot ROM can force EEMac to activate on those models if they need to encrypt those machines now. As always, it is McAfee's recommendation for customers to wait for the hotfix instead of forcing the activation to occur.
