Community Username: Joe Bidgood

 

Joe is one of those people who has extremely valuable insight and expertise, yet doesn't necessarily want to be the center of attention. So thanks for allowing me to shine a spotlight on you, Joe. I'll try to keep this short and sweet.

 

Joe started helping customers in our previous forums before we launched this site in November of 2009. He remains very active in the Management Platform (ePolicy Orchestrator) area both at work and in his spare time. Joe contributes on a steady basis by answering technical product questions and reaching out to customers to resolve their issues.

 

A customer recently said this about Joe for his extra effort on a Support Request:

 

As it is, Joe Bidgood has come through and uploaded ePO 3.6.1 base installation package for us, so we can follow through the upgrade path. Cheers Joe!

 

Thanks for being such a huge help, Joe!  Your efforts are clearly appreciated!

A little about Joe: (he is hilarious!)

 

Briefly explain what you do and how long you’ve been in your career.

I do Tier 3 support for ePO and the agent. I've been in tech support since 1998, when I joined Dr. Solomon's - one day after my three-month probation period was over it was announced that they were selling the company to Network Associates. I'm pretty sure the two are unrelated.

 

 

How often do you visit the McAfee community? How long have you been a member?

Every working day, and some evenings. I was briefly a member of the previous McAfee forums, and have long been involved in "non-company" support forums like the TVDUG user group, all the way back to alt.comp.virus on Usenet.

 

 

What areas in the community do you visit the most? How do you spend your time?

99% of my time is in the ePO Business forum, trying to answer questions where I can

 

 

What tips would you give someone who is new to the community?

Lurk for a while and get a feel for the place, and become *intimately* acquainted with the search functions - an awful lot of questions will have been asked and hopefully answered before.

 

 

What is your favorite thing about the community?

Flaming n00bs - er, the warm fuzzy feeling you get when you help someone, I mean

 

 

What is the best advice you have received in the community?

"Never let them see you bleed, and always have an escape plan." Might have been a different community, come to think of it.

 

 

How long have you been using McAfee? Which product(s) do you have expertise in?

As long as I've worked here. My main expertise is, fairly obviously, in the products that I support or have supported - so that's ePO, the agent, as well as old stuff like Management Edition.

 

 

What advice would you give people using McAfee in your area of expertise?

It's a cliché but - Read The Manual. And the readmes. And the FAQs. And the... you get the picture

 

 

Do you speak any languages besides English?

French reasonably well, German very badly. I can order a beer in all known forms of communication, though.

 

 

What is a fun fact about you?

I work in Tech Support. What is this "fun" you speak of? :-)
