VSE 8.7i Patch 1 has been pulled

Not a word why on the support portal or in the knowledgebase, but it has been pulled from both the support portal and the corporate download page.

RE: VSE 8.7i Patch 1 has been pulled
What is going on at McAfee as I can confirm that this packagae has also been pulled under our grant number. Hopefully it is not anything serious or that they might be including the hotfix which would be nice.

Anyhow, I have just wasted about 3 days testing this patch. Being an overworked administrator this is highly frustrating. I am going to put any testing of VSE 8.7i on hold until we get word from McAfee.

Microsoft Windows 2003 Standard SP2
EPO Server 4.0.0.1298 (Patch 5)
EPO Agent 4.0.0.1494 (Patch 3)
McAfee VirusScan 8.0i - Patch 15 - about 5 slower computers - starting to remove due to EOL on March 2010
McAfee VirusScan 8.5i - Patch 7/8 plus HotFix 458640 x over 1600 systems
McAfee VirusScan 8.7i - Testing Patch 2
McAfee EPO 4.5 server - waiting for Patch 1 before considering testing

RE: VSE 8.7i Patch 1 has been pulled
I'm seeing huge amounts of false positives for W32/Generic.worm.aa, Windows File Protection errors, and finally, breaking of WSUS or Windows Updates.

RE: VSE 8.7i Patch 1 has been pulled
I'm seeing the same false positives for W32/Generic.worm.aa on 2 machines with the patch.

Does anyone know how to uninstall patch 1 automatically? I rolled it out to some test users using SMS and would like to automatically remove it. I can't find the uninstall string in the registry.

With some patches you have to change the "Uninstallable" DWORD to 0 in the Windows installer hive.
Otherwise you will not be able to uninstall the patch.

Now, after users shutdown workstations, Windows will fail to boot. It looks like some system files are being flagged and clean/deleted. I'm still waiting for a call back from tier 2 or 3 support (levels change depending on whom I ask when I tried to get an update on my case).

Ridiculous.

This explains why it wouldn't install on any Windows 2000 servers, buggy as hell.

McAfee are a bunch of cowboys, now i have to get this uninstalled from 2500 of our client machines... great.

This is true.

Any machines where it has a false positive of Generic.Worm.AA deletes system files and then it fails to boot... causing a rebooting cycle over and over.

It has happened to 4 of our machines already.

Anyone know the command to uninstall the patch?

Tried using setup.exe /uninstall /qn but it doesnt work. Needs to be something like setup.exe /uninstall patch1.msp but cant get my head around it.

Theres no way im leaving this patch on my clients when it causes them to blue screen.

RE: VSE 8.7i Patch 1 has been pulled
What is McAfee doing? First they release a buggy 8.7i, then they wait half a year before they release the first patch and now the patch itself has been pulled? Do they actually know themselves how ridiculous this looks? They're gonna loose customers over this, that's a fact.

I installed 8.7p1 on a couple of computers throughout the organization to test it and although it hasn't caused problems, I've just removed it as a precaution, going back to 8.5...

The thing that troubles me most is the fact that no official statement has been given on why it has been pulled. If there's something seriously wrong, customers should know about it.
