SystemGuard protection is disabled

For the past week or so, more than twice a day, I see the yellow icon with the exclamation mark in my system tray. When I place the cursor over the icon it shows, "SystemGuard protection is disabled". I then open the Security Center, confirm that SG protection is disabled, click FIX, and within a few seconds the anomaly disappears. Since I do not know how to disable SG protection, what is causing it to be disabled multiple times a day?

I have Security Center version 8.1, build 8.1.173, last updated 03-26-08.

Update to 9.11 or higher see

RE: SystemGuard protection is disabled
Hi Jim,

Can you try to run the McAfee Virtual Technician and check if you are able to find any problem with the McAfee Products installed on the computer. To run the McAfee Virtual Technician please follow the instructions provided below:

Steps:
1. Click on the following link https://us.mcafee.com/root/mvtapp.exe now you would get a file download security warning click on save and save it to the desktop.
2. Now click on ‘Run’ on the next window which would open the McAfee Virtual Technician.
3. Click on ‘Continue’ which would give you the End User License Agreement click on ‘I Agree’.
4. Now the McAfee Virtual Technician would start scanning your computer.
5. Once the scanning is done on the top right corner you would have the Session ID make a note of it.
6. Now if it gives you an ‘Auto Fix’ option please go-ahead and try to resolve the issue or if it gives any message make a note of it.
Now please give us the Session ID so that we can have a look at the information.

Thanks,
OJ

RE: SystemGuard protection is disabled
Oh okay this seems to be new but can you try to run the McAfee Virtual Technician as well and check if there are any problems with the McAfee Products install as well as please check if there are any incompatible programs that are listed in the following list http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107064&lc=1033&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1. If there are any incompatible programs please try to remove them and then check if you still have that problem.

RE: Virtual Technician
Well devon scouse, can you please give me the session ID for the McAfee Virtual Technician session? This would help me pull out the results and check if there are some things that the McAfee Virtual Technician could not find.

Me too
I started having this problem last week as well. I have McAfee installed on three computers, two of which are desktops with Vista and don't exhibit the problem , and one which of which is a laptop with XP and has the same problem described here by the other posters.

I don't have any of the software listed in the incompatibility list, and I don't recall having installed anything in the past week or so.

I ran the virtual technition (and updated it with the new version downloaded from the web) and it didn't report any problems with my system. The session id is 8668350.

By the way, I also have the problem with losing my wireless connectivity (have a signal but with "limited or no connectivity" message) on the same system, since the day I first installed Norton. Not sure it that might be related to the present issue.

RE: Me too
Well can you please check in your Local Disk C: if there are any Symantec or Norton folders. Also check in C:\Program Files as well as C:\Documents & Setting\All Users\Application Data\, check if you have any Symantec or Norton folders please try to delete them. Does your router support any firewall?

RE: Me too

Yes, I did find a leftover Symantec LiveUpdate folder from a previous installation of a Symantec product, and I discovered the LiveUpdate service was still running. I stopped the process and deleted the Symantec folder in program files. Yet, about 20 seconds after I did that, I got the "Your computer is not fully protected" warning message again. sad I've now also deleted the two Symantec AppData folders (one for All Users and one for the Logged-in User) and will wait and see if the warning occurs again.

Yes, my router device has in integrated firewall.

RE: Me too
Alright we shall wait, but can you please make sure that you turn off your router firewall since you already have a firewall with McAfee.

RE: Me too
I am sorry, but I am not going to turn off my hardware firewall.

Anyway, I don't think it is related to the issue at hand, since I've used this firewall with McAfee all along, and the issue has only manifested itself within the past week.
